Announcements Your child will continue fluency practice as part of his/her daily homework.Thank you for your commitment to doing this every night as our DIBELS test will continue this week. The end of year fluency goal is to read 47 or more words per minute. After each minute of reading, please have your child retell as many details as they remember from the story. Remind your child that these details should be retold in the same order as they happened in the story. This week, we will be doing many different STEAM activities (see science). We are so excited to have our special guest, Mr. Biesbrouck, come and present to first grade about reptiles. Students will visit each first grade classroom to do an inquiry based activity. We'll also visit the science fair. This Week In Class Reading We will continue to read and write words "ough." It makes six different sounds (though, through, enough, cough, trough, drought). We will continue to practice fluency and retell. Math We will begin a unit on fractions. Students will learn about equal parts, halves and fourths. Writing We will write an imaginative narrative that has an opening sentence, details and a closing sentence. Science/Social Studies May's Be Kind Trait is "Be Helpful." We'll learn about what that looks like in our everyday lives. We will compare and contrast butterflies and moths. We will also explore STEAM concepts (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics).
